How do I troubleshoot a Prestan CPR manikin rate monitor?

There are 2 working parts in a Prestan Professional Monitored Manikin: the mechanically-operated Clicker and the battery-operated CPR Rate Monitor (Monitor/Lights). The Monitor lights are powered by a small current, activated by the Clicker. The 2 parts connect to each other as shown in the photos (right).
